Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day. A tribute to our fallen heroes. A time to reflect of those who gave of themselves so that we may share in the freedoms of this great nation. On this day, I think of my Papa John, the man I was named after. I have lots of fond memories of spending time with him. I think I get my sense of humor from him. And I think of my Grandpa Don, and the stories he told to me
of his time in the South Pacific. I didn't have that much time to spend with him, but each moment was treasured. Although I am a peace time veteran, I thank all of the men and women who have and still do serve this great country and protect our freedom.

Please take the time to view this video. It is well worth your time.

Also this weekend, we watched the Rangers defeat the A's 4-3 putting the Rangers 3 games ahead in first place!

"IN GOD WE TRUST"

A local school (Keller, Texas) has decided that they would put the new design of the U.S. Nickel on their year book, but omit the words "In God We Trust" from the picture as to not offend people of other religions. The school's name is Liberty Elementary and they thought it fitting to include the new nickel design because it boasts the word liberty on it. You may have seen this as it has attracted national attention.

This offends me! I am sick and tired of these P.C. (polliticaly correct) people telling me what is acceptable. Whether you believe in the words or not is irrelevant, that is the motto of the United Sates Of America. Our founding fathers set forth a new nation, under God, etc. This country was based on freedom of religion, yet settle by Christians. You can't change the past. Our motto is: "IN GOD WE TRUST". It is on our money, ALL of our money. And used to be on all of our government buildings. If you don't like what this country stands for and respect our founding fathers, please leave, us real Americans don't need you here.

I hope you P.C. people are reading this, because you are whom this post is for . . . I don't celebrate holiday vacation, it's Christmas vacation. No holiday tree at my house, it's a Christmas tree, with Christmas decorations! And my family enjoys a game called "Chinese Gift Exchange" and it has nothing to do with the Chinese! I think you get my point.

They say that 85% of America is Christian, why then are we so worried about offending other people's religions and not standing up for our own?

I'm tired of worrying about "other" religions. Before you come to this country you should know what our history is. Don't take offense to the fact that Christians settled it, deal with it or leave!

Wright Amendment

For those of you who are unaware of the Wright Amendment, let me bring you up to speed on our airport situation here in North Texas. In 1974 they opened D/FW airport and tried to close Love Field which is near downtown Dallas. Dallas based Southwest Airlines refused to move to D/FW and insisted on staying at Love. The powers that be enacted the Wright Amendment in 1979 stating that no commercial airline can fly from Love Field to beyond the states that touch Texas. We have lived with this restriction ever since. Within the last year or two, many states have lobbied Congress for exemption to the amendment. Currently Southwest flies to eight nearby states, the most recent being Missouri. Nebraska has asked for exemption this past week.

For the past two months, Dallas, Ft Worth, and D/FW have been trying to reach an agreement about the amendment. There are supporters and opponents. The major opponents being Ft Worth based American Airlines and people who live near Love Field. American Airlines is afraid of the competition. The rest of the country enjoys low airfare either by flying Southwest or because of competition from Southwest. Here in North Texas, we either pay higher prices to fly or we drive.

The opponents who live near Love Field are upset that repealing the Wright Amendment will lead to more air traffic and thus more aircraft noise. Duh! You live near an airport! If you don't want to hear aircraft noise move away from the airport. It's not rocket science! Although, Dallas is home of the drama. If not from the school district or their city council, then from Wright Amendment opponents.

The airlines, including American, complain about losing revenue due to high fuel costs. Let Southwest enter the competition and lower prices and you'll get more business! Competition = lower costs = more passengers = more revenue.

Repealing the Wright Amendment is good for North Texas and good for consumers.

Dancing Video

This is too hilarious not to share. I really enjoyed watching it mostly because I can't dance (two left feet).

Save The Internet

As more people become computer literate, the cyber "air waves" become more congested. When music, movie, and other large files are downloaded, it slows down the internet. When more people log onto MySpace and other popular sights and at high volume times of the day, the internet slows down. Now the big companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast and lobbying congress to add fees to websights that are high traffic and continually offer large file downloads. These sights will eventually pass the fee onto us, the little guys.

Those of you who know me, know that I check everything through Snopes and I am telling you that this is the real deal. Contact your congressman and tell them to leave the internet as it is, a free medium. Help to protect your first amendment rights. There are sights available to contact your congressmen via e-mail.

This is only the start of "Big Brother" meddling into our affairs. It's the government and other big companies that want to tell us how to run our lives. We must stand up against them now before it's too late!
Pease join me in this fight to protect our freedom and our future.

Sports Time

Please sit down for the following announcement . . . . . . . . .(drum roll, please)

The Texas Rangers are in first place in their division.
I know it's still early in the season, but I have hope. When the Rangers won their three previous division titles in 1996, 1998 and 1999, they were in first place on May 1. We've got some really good players and finally some good pitchers this year! We're only two games over .500, but as long as we keep our momentum, maybe we can get another title under our belt. I'm looking forward to the next game that we get to attend!

This past weekend we went to the horse track again. It was dollar day. Jenny warned me that it would be packed, boy did she call that one! After standing in the betting line for 20 minutes between race 5 and 6, I decided that I was done betting and therefore, didn't break even. (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!) Our friends came with us and they either broke even or were a little ahead. It was good times anyway.

One final note, I'm still kicking Jenny's butt in fantasy nascar! We are in two different fantasy leagues and I have been consistent through the first 9 races. (applause)
