More Saturday Fun

We met up with our friends this morning for a full day of fun and adventure. We all headed over to the local train station in Hurst for a ride to downtown Dallas. The kids were THRILLED to ride a
train for the 30 minutes it took to get downtown.

Once we were downtown, we headed over to the convention center for the annual GATS (Great American Truck Show). We always enjoy checking out the "big" trucks and getting all the give-aways they have. This year besides the Pride and Polish and free concerts they always have, Chrome Shop Mafia from CMT's "Trick My Truck" was there. We didn't see the actual guys from the show, but they brought several of their trucks that were "tricked" and a couple of the people who own the trucks. They also had a huge trailer full of merchandise, they are really cashing in on their success. Also this year they had an ice cream social for the drivers and their families. All in all it was lots of fun.

After that it was time to ride the train back to Hurst to get our car. From there we all headed over to Ft. Worth to my second favorite restaurant which is Edelweiss German Restaurant. I have been there many times and the food is always phenomenal. They have an extensive beer list and live music to boot! This was my friend, James', first time to eat here and agreed that it was truly great German food.

Funny Video

I got this video in an e-mail and uploaded it to YouTube. It is hilarious. This is our local D/FW NBC5 affiliate. They are doing a show about animals that can be found in the area.

4400

This Sunday is the season finale of USA Network's 4400. If you haven't been watching, you've been missing a really good show. That's not just me talking, this is an Emmy nominated program! The good news is, starting this Sunday at 10:00 AM Central Time on USA, they will be running an 8-hour marathon before the season finale to catch you up on the show.

4400 people were abducted over the past 50 years. When they are all returned to the Seattle area in 2004, they each have a special ability or power. We also found out that it was not aliens that took these people but humans from the future trying to save our race. Now, as in all humans, some are good and some are evil. A new government agency is established called NTAC (National Threat Assessment Command) to keep them all in line. It sounds hokey, but it's a really good show. Give it a chance.

The final news is that USA has picked it up for another season, to air in Summer 2007!

"The 4400 premiered on USA as a limited series in July 2004 as the highest-rated and most-watched new series premiere ever on a basic cable network, and still continues to perform as a ratings powerhouse for the network."

Happy (early) Birthday, Paul!

For years it was a tradition among my friends to eat at Houston's Restaurant for our friend, Paul's, birthday. We looked forward to this evening enriched by great food and good times. Houston's has long been a favorite restaurant of mine because they have the best ribs in the country. Being a Texas resident for a long time and eating BBQ all over the country, I am confident that Houston's definitely has THE BEST RIBS PERIOD!

Sometime back, I told my dad the next time they come to town I would take them to Houston's. Well they came in on Saturday and I warned them that it was over an hour ride to the restaurant, but that the food was WELL worth the drive. So off we went, after some crazy traffic near downtown Dallas and an hour and a half later, Houston's was in our view. They informed me that they had recently eaten some very good ribs and thought that it would be hard to top.

We started with their legendary spinach dip (the best). They also have a very large wine list, from which we sampled a few vinos. The waiter told us about the daily specials. They sounded good, but I asked everyone to be strong and try the ribs. Well, to my delight, they enjoyed the ribs as much as I always do and gave me props for the dinner suggestion. And also let me know that, they too, thought that these ribs were THE BEST. (You get a full rack of baby back ribs, seasoned and sauced to perfection, a large helping of tasty coleslaw and a heap of shoestring french fries.) If you are like me and eat it all, there's no room for desert. Actually, I've never tried anything else except the ribs at Houston's, but from the reviews I've found surfing the internet, their other food is just as good.

We went to the location at Beltline and the tollway. They have another location in Preston Center. Houston's is owned by the Hillstone Restaurant Group. Navigate through their sight to find other Houston's locations throughout the country. You have my personal guarantee that you will not be disappointed in the food.

Lies, Lies, Lies

Watch this video first:

Here's another link if YouTube isn't working.

I cannot believe all the sympathy for Hezbollah and Lebanon. Hezbollah is an extreme terrorist group who started this "little" war by kidnapping two Israeli people. The only natural response was for Israel to stand up for themselves and fight Hezbollah for their actions. Hezbollah wanted this fight and now they are getting the butt handed to them.

Think if this had happened to America and what our actions would have been. Wait, something did happen to us, we were attacked on 9/11. What was our response . . . . . We attacked Al Queda. What is different about what Israel is doing? Why hasn't the U.S. backed our friends in Israel?

Now the news media is on board with creating sympathy for Hezbollah by faking photos. This is despicable. Hezbollah is backed by Syria and Iran, two countries that we need to wipe out to further our efforts in the "War on Terror". If these countries want World War III, then we should give it to them, not side with the enemy as the New York Times, Reuters and AP have done.

This just goes to show you that you can believe anything you read and only half of what you see!

Great E-mail

This is an e-mail that I received recently and it's too good not to share:

One of my sons serves in the military. He is stationed stateside, here
in California. He called me yesterday to let me know how warm and
welcoming people were to him and his troops everywhere they go.
Telling me how people shake their hands and thank them for being
willing to serve and fight, not only our own freedoms but so that
others may have them too.

Then he told me about an incident in the grocery store he stopped at
yesterday, on his way home from the base. He said that several
people were in the line ahead of him, including a woman dressed in a
burkha.

He said when she got to the cashier, she made a loud remark about
the U.S. Flag, lapel pin, the cashier wore on her smock. The cashier
reached up and touched the pin and said, "Yes, I always wear it proudly,
because I'm an American."

The woman in the burkha then asked the cashier when she was going to
stop bombing her countrymen, explaining that she was Iraqi.

Then, a Gentleman standing behind my son stepped forward, putting
his arm around my son's shoulders and nodding towards my son, said in a
calm and gentle voice to the Iraqi woman: Lady, hundreds of thousands of
men and women like this young man have fought and died so that YOU could
stand here, in MY country and accuse a check-out cashier of bombing
YOUR countrymen. It is my belief that had you been this outspoken in
YOUR own country, we wouldn't need to be there today. But, hey, if you have
now learned how to speak out so loudly and clearly, I'll gladly buy you
a ticket and pay your way back to Iraq, so you can straighten out the
Mess in YOUR country, that you are obviously here in MY country to
avoid."

Everyone within hearing distance cheered!

I couldn't have said it better myself!

To The Moon And Beyond

As the Space Shuttle is set to retire soon, NASA has announced the next generation of spacecraft, the CEV Ares 1 and Ares 5. There are planned missions to send men "back" to the Moon and then to Mars. There is an awesome artist conception video here.

My skepticism comes from a Fox 2001 television show called: "Conspiracy Theory: Did We Land on the Moon?'' This 1 hour show brought up a lot of questions in my mind. Since I have long thought that the government misleads us and keeps information from us, I began to believe that, in fact, we never have been to the Moon. A 1978 movie, "Capricorn One" shows how a faked planetary landing is filmed on a closed set.

After hearing all of the Fox shows points on why the moon landing is obviously faked, I checked out BadAstronomy.com. On this web sight each point that the Fox show brings up is debunked, however, I still tend to lean toward the Fox show.

Here's why:
  1. After two airings in 2001 (February 15 and March 19), Fox was "told" not to ever air the show again. I found this out when I e-mailed them to ask when I could catch it again. (Luckily I have a copy of it now)
  2. Why have we not returned to the Moon since 1972, 34 years? And why the rush now?
  3. If we did go to the moon in 1969-1972, why all the new designs, etc.? We should be able to use the basic design of the Apollo rockets.

A couple of years ago, I read that Japan was planning a "fly by" rocket to see if the things we were supposed to have left on the Moon were really there. (i.e. the American flag and Lunar Rover) The best that I can determine, Japan has not yet sent this rocket but it is still planned for the very near future.

I hope that we do, some day, go to the Moon, but I'm not entirely sure that it has already happened.

What A Day

We had a long, but fun day today. We had told the kids that if they were good all week they'd get to go to Chuck E. Cheese. So, today after swim lessons we went to CEC for lunch and games. The kids had a lot of fun!

Fun high above Dallas So after so much fun there, we decided to take them to Reunion Tower in Dallas. We went up to The Dome Lounge and had drinks (the kids had non-alcoholic, of course) and watched Dallas go around. The floor rotates a complete 360 degrees every 55 minutes.

After the fun at the tower and while we were in Dallas, we decided to eat dinner at a place called The Magic Time Machine. Johnnie flying with Superman We had heard about this place a couple of months ago and thought about
checking it out while on vacation in San Antonio, but never made it. Well, the place has flair. The kids were able to order magic potions to drink, and the drinks were smoking when they arrived. There was a salad bar built into an old car and the booths were off the wall. You could sit in a giant pumpkin, a Crayola box, a library, school room, a giant 'dunce' hat, a real school bus, even a hut or a merry-go-round. Also, each and every member of the waitstaff is dressed in a costume of some sort and they can be different characters each time you visit. Tonight we saw Sinbad the Sailor (our waiter), Superman, Charlie (from the chocolate factory), the Tooth Fairy, Supergirl, Waldo, Madd Hatter, the Riddler, Zorro, Snow White, Harry Potter, Rainbow Brite, Lilo (and Stitch) and Robin Hood (I think that's all of them). The kid's menu doubles as an autograph book so everyone's kids were chasing down the characters to get their signatures. It was a wild and crazy time. You definitely don't go there for the food, though, because it wasn't all that good. All in all, it was fun.

Sinbad, our waiter

2 and half hours at Check E. Cheese - $30.00
1 hour above Dallas with drinks - $35.00
A crazy time in a Magic Time Machine - $60.00
Having a GREAT day with your LOVING family - PRICELESS!!
